Success Story - TMJ
Another patient, female and mid-20s, came in stating Temporal-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) pain along with neck pain and headaches. She came in requesting manual therapy (Graston) for her jaw pain and relief for headaches. After evaluating her, Dr. Hoberland found that her jaw pain as well as her headaches were coming from restriction in her cervical spine – hence the neck pain. After a total of 8 visits, this patient now comes in on an as needed basis. Treatment that was given included a full evaluation of spinal, muscular, and nervous systems, as well as weekly and bi-weekly visits where she was given gentle chiropractic adjustments, McKenzie Method physical therapy exercises for the neck, work setup ergonomics, new pillow recommendation, and manual therapy such as a massage tool on her jaw and Graston on the neck. Graston Technique uses a small metal tool to target and break up fascial adhesions (think scar tissue from overuse, no direct injury) within tight muscles. Dr. Hoberland has a background in functional nutrition and supported our patient’s magnesium deficiency and sleep disruptions as well. This patient was very compliant with her exercises and lifestyle changes outside of her visits which resulted in a short treatment time and quickly finding pain relief. She now does her exercises daily, especially if there’s a flare up. Her jaw pain has subsided, and her headaches aren’t as frequent. She continues to use her updated work from home setup for good neck ergonomics and has even influenced her boyfriend to make the same changes! Dr. Hoberland has the background, knowledge, and tools to help you get through the day pain free!
